Art at Spa House
The Mnuchin’s have long valued art in their lives and
share that experience throughout Spa House.
Painting
In the Garden room you will find the lyrical figurative
abstraction of Willem DeKooning. This painting, Untitled XII,
1986, is an excellent example of this American master’s
later work unique for their simple elegant style – spirals
of blue and yellow, clean lines and brush stroke evoke light,
movement and spirituality. Over the fireplace is the soothing,
ethereal work of Miquel Barcelo entitled “Sabonera”,
2002. The textured, layered painting is typical of this Spanish
artist’s most recent work.
Photography
Throughout Spa house you will find some exquisite
examples of still life photography. The lovely platinum prints
on display in the Spa House entry are by Carl Weese whose
interpretations of the local landscape are renowned for their
quality and evocative beauty. These are depictions of our
very own Steeprock Reserve where many of your hikes and outdoor
activities take place. Ron Van Dongen, is well known for his
seductive black and white flowers which exude subtle elegance
and are carefully composed blend of the serene and the dynamic.
Sandi Fellman has created flower abstractions, subtly toned
in sepia. The flowers are “larger than life” with
a fluid energy that is at once ethereal, velvety, and delicate.
Artisinal Glass
Timothy Hochstetter has created one-of-a-kind art
glass in the form of site specific blown glass sculpture and
lighting. Tim worked with the spa in mind to create pieces
that express movement, fluidity, flexibility and flow. These
pieces are hand blown and sculpted in the Adeptus Arts studio
in Washington Depot, CT.
